The big deal on GMPs!

Good Manufacturing Practices, commonly referred to as “GMP’s”, are a list of basic sanitary and quality standards set by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) and, in the U.S., the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

GMPs ensure that you, the consumer, have a product that is made under sanitary conditions by a repeatable and reliable process.  That means someone can’t make your food product in their garage! Thank heavens right!?  Hey don’t laugh – it’s been done before!

The GMPs also require every company to have a process is in place to minimize the risks of any cross contamination, adulteration in the production (sorry the three second rule just doesn’t cut it in the Health Product business) and storage of your next remedy. It makes us manufacturers responsible for the suppliers we purchase ingredients from, the equipment we process on, the quality of the product we sell, and the employees we hire.

In our case, we at From The Earth Naturally Ltd. ensure every ingredient has a history that includes micro-biological analysis, heavy metals testing, and is insecticide free and of high quality. Our processing standards for VIVACA® insure that we meet all the government’s standards for sanitation, that all our procedures are carefully followed ensuring consistent results, and all our product is tested to ensure active components are present and accounted for!

Learn more about GMPs and how our audit ensures that they are done in next week’s blog post!
